photo(43)There are many chapters in the book of my adventures of breastfeeding.  Pumping in the car, pumping in the parking lot at concerts, and of course the daily pumping at work.

I received a nice compliment the other day from my coworker’s wife after he shared the photo seen here with her.  She passed along the message “she is doing a great thing, tell her she has my respect as I know how difficult it can be to breastfeed while being a working mother.”  That was just the extra boost I needed to keep on going because it IS difficult at times to break away from work and go to my office to pump.  My feelings of “I hope they don’t think I’m slacking at work” to “I wonder what they think about my breast milk in the fridge” all went away with that compliment.  So I want to pass along that extra boost to you if you are breastfeeding – keep on going!

Paying for formula when you don’t need to is NOT fun and I learned my lesson the first time around with Bryce.  I started going longer and longer in between pumpings; and sure enough, I dried up quicker than I wanted to.  Now I am stricter on myself to step away every 3-4 hours to pump.  I can still get work done as I answer emails while I’m pumping!

In all honesty, everyone at work has been very supportive.  I did have a good laugh the other day though when I accidentally spilled some of my breast milk while I was pouring it into one of the bags to put in the fridge.  A male coworker asked, “oh no what did you spill?!”  I think I caught him off guard when I said it was my breast milk as he nervously laughed and kept walking down the hallway.  I wonder how many people he shared that story with!  You just have to laugh it off.  Who cares what people are saying or thinking.  Here’s my high-five and pat on the back to you breastfeeding mommy.
