eave at the store. Here are some things that might be on your “maybe” list that actually need to be on your “100% get” list:
Diaper Pail
I had a few friends ask why we had registered for a diaper pail. Why not just use a regular trash can. Let me tell you this is one your nose will be VERY thankful for! That smell of a dirty diaper can quickly take over your house and no one wants that. Don’t cheap out on this either, spring for a more expensive one. Diaper Genie is the one most people automatically go for, but we had much better success with the Ubi brand. You’ll actually save money because you can use regular trash bags with it instead of the ones that are specially made for the Diaper Genie.
Bottle Warmer
This is another thing that a lot of people might tell you is a waste of money, but a bottle warmer is worth every penny. When your child needs a bottle in the middle of the night, the last thing you want to do is try and remember how long to warm the bottle or wait under running warm water. This one can be easily used and even has an app to make warming your bottle a breeze. Pro tip: get a good small insulated cooler for your bedroom. This way you can keep one small bottle cold and then move it to the warmer without leaving the room. For breastfeeding moms, this will also help alleviate your burden a little and allow dad some time to feed your child with some pre-pumped milk.
Baby Shusher
If this is not on your registry, put it on your list NOW! The Baby Shusher might be the best thing invented in the last ten years. This small device makes an actual shushing sound to help soothe your baby to sleep. The best part is that it is portable and goes wherever you go. I hadn’t heard of it until I was given one at my baby shower and now tell everyone I know about it.
The Halo Bassinet
This is one that I don’t have personal experience with and I regret it every day. My little man was only soothed by movement at night to sleep. We went through MONTHS of him not sleeping through the night because he just wanted to be in our arms or a swing. I cheaped out and registered for a less expensive bassinet that didn’t have the features that this one does and I still regret it. Every parent I talked to said that it was the perfect thing to get their child to sleep at night. If I had to do it all over again I would get this:
Electric Nasal Aspirator
There are a lot of options to remove the snot from your baby’s nose. You can use one of the traditional balloon aspirators that they send ten home with you from the hospital, you can get one of those that is basically a long sucking straw (Yuck!) or you can get an electric nasal aspirator. While there are many on the market, this is the only one that has a 5-star rating with almost 500 reviews on Amazon. Plus it has all the features you would ever need to get your little one breathing right:
