So Moved: The Art & Science Of Motion

June 8, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

So Moved: The Art and Science of Motion explores motion and movement through interactive science exhibits and through works of art presented by contemporary San Diego artists.

The eight science exhibits include the “Gravity Well,” the “Chaotic Pendulum” and the “Oscylinderscope,” which shows the movement of guitar strings after they’ve been strummed.

These will be complemented by 14 artworks, many of them interactive, by nine local artists: Adam Belt, Matthew Hebert, Justin Manor, Margaret Noble, Ingram Ober, Arthur Olson, Marisol Rendon and Chris Warren.

Another featured artist is Dave Ghilarducci, who helped create the Fleet’s recent “Taping Shape” exhibition. Two of the art pieces in So Moved were created specifically for this exhibition.

Areas of exploration include:
1. Rotational and circular motion
2. Back and forth motion
3. Wave motion
4. Random motion
5. Illusion of motion (optical motion)

So Moved: The Art and Science of Motion will be open from Saturday, Feb. 11, through Sunday, June 11, 2017, in the upstairs Rotunda Gallery of the Fleet Science Center.
