TOUCH A TRUCK X – 10 Years of Xhilarating Fun and Funds Raised for Kids Cancer research.

San Diego’s original Touch A Truck is back for its 10th year, giving little drivers the green light to sit behind the wheel and honk the horn to their little hearts’ content in every type of vehicle imaginable. And best of all, the funds raised benefit the Beat Nb Foundation in their mission of curing cancer for kids.

Cobras, rat rods, show-n-shine classics… our amazing vehicle owners bring some nice iron to sit in. You’ll also see (and explore!) a helicopter, emergency vehicles, motorcycles, construction trucks, off-road racers, Star Wars and Marvel characters, a singing princess, food truck (of course), games, a most amazing lemonade stand, and more. It gets better every year.

100% of the ticket price goes to research and treatments for kids battling cancer – we are 100% volunteer-driven, and many of the services and equipment used to produce Touch A Truck are donated or heavily discounted in order to maximize the money raised.

It Takes This Long For Parents To Go Nuts During Summer Break

June 21, 2018 By My SD Moms

How long does it take for parents to stress out when Summer break arrives?

Not long.

An new study, sponsored in part by Groupon, finds that it takes less than two weeks – about 13 days – for parents to feel stress taking its toll when Summer vacation season starts.

The poll surveyed about 2,000 parents to arrive at its findings, which include the stat that three out of five parents feel their Summer vacation plans won’t fully live up to the expectations of their children.

One of the major sources of Summer stress comes from what’s referred to as Parental Summer Guilt.  It’s what parents feel when their kids spend too much time in the house instead of getting out to experience the day.

Another is expenses.  While parents usually voice concern over the cost of family vacations, they mostly don’t hold back on making sure their family has an enjoyable time.

So, what’s a parent to do?  The recommendation is that you don’t overthink it and if cost is a concern, look for affordable family activities in your local community.

For more about what the study found and other recommendations on how to enjoy Summer with the kids, take a look at the full article here.

Georgia Mom Warns Others After Son Contracts Rare Disease From Tick Bite

June 12, 2018 By My SD Moms

A mom in Georgia is warning others to take care after her son contracted a rare disease following a tick bite.

Mason McNair was staying with relatives in LaGrange, Georgia when then noticed a tick near his belly button.  The tick was quickly removed, but the area got red and infected.

Mom Danielle McNair took her son to the doctor who prescribed antibiotics, but Mason’s condition worsened and he eventually broke out in a rash from head to toe, as seen in Danielle’s Facebook post below.

Doctors investigated further and found that Mason had Rocky Mountain spotted fever.  A bacterial infection that can lead to amputation, hearing loss, paralysis and mental disabilities.

After doctors changed his treatment to include the correct antibiotic, Danielle was happy to report that he was now “completely healthy.”

“Please be aware of ticks and make sure to check yourself and your kids every time when coming from outside! Especially in wooded areas, by lakes, tall grasses,” said McNair.
