Celebrate Mother’s Day with a Fancy Dress Swim!

I LOVE this idea: get dolled up in one of your fancy dresses – maybe one you don’t wear too often anymore – and swim in the Pacific for a good cause. What a cool way to spend Mother’s Day!

From the press release:
The annual Mother’s Day Fancy Dress Swim is happening at 10:00 AM PST on Sunday, May 12, at Oceanside Pier in San Diego.

As Mother’s Day has become more and more associated with consumer culture in recent years, this event is a great feature about a group of moms dedicating their special day to fellow moms around the world by raising awareness about malaria and raising money to buy insecticide-treated bed nets for children.

Goals of the swim are two-fold – to raise awareness for ONE and monies for the World Swim Against Malaria. Swimmers are given ONE wristbands and pose on a white ONE carpet for photos pre-swim. The event inspires donations from all around the US and Canada. One hundred percent of each $5 raised purchases an insecticide-treated bed net and spares fellow moms the agony of losing their young children to malaria.

Non-swimming supporters receive a gift receipt that they can include when gifting cards or flowers to their mothers.”

Kick off your Mother’s Day with a brisk swim in a party dress and do some good. It will be so much fun and it will feel great knowing you are making a difference to children around the world. It’s like a gift to mothers everywhere, and yourself! That’s the best kind of Mother’s Day gift.
