It happens twice a year and every time it can be the most stressful time as a parent – the time changes! It’s about to happen again on March 9th. If just the thought of getting your kids on a new schedule stresses you out now is the time to start getting them prepped. Here are some strategies you can use to make the time change go smoothly for your little ones:

1 – Change their bedtime and gradually move their bedtime earlier each night. If your child naps, try waking them up earlier so they’re tired at bedtime. Also, make sure you are adjusting meal and nap times by the same amount as bedtime

2 – Establish a routine and make sure you stick to that consistent bedtime routine. If each bedtime starts with a bath, new jammies and brushing their teeth stick to that routine in the weeks leading up to the time change and after.

3 – Limit screen time and avoid screen use in the hour before bed. Blue light from phones, tablets, and TVs can contribute to poor sleep

4 – Use blackout blinds or cover windows with cardboard or black plastic to block out sunlight.

Don’t forget, be patient. It can take the body up to a week or more to adjust to daylight saving time!
