Date night has totally changed since we’ve had 2 babies.  First, the obvious, getting someone to watch 2 children under the age of 2.  This isn’t a typical teenager babysitter type of chore, we have to look to our close adult friends.  We don’t want to take advantage of asking our friends to give us their free time to play with a toddler and feed/burp/diaper change a 3 month old, so date night has to be saved for something special.  Well the other day was one of those days and it was time to start asking our friends for that favor of watching the babies.  It’s one of those things all of our friends have said, “please don’t hesitate to ask us!” so we finally started asking!

After one of the couples  we hang out with said yes to watching the kids, it felt like I was in a tornado trying to get ready.  It’s not as simple as jumping in the shower, picking out an outfit and doing my hair & makeup anymore.  Now it’s: find a dress that still fits, run around the house with half my clothes on while nursing Stella, pack a diaper bag, start putting on my makeup while throwing toys around with Bryce, change a diaper, brush my teeth, try to make my hair look somewhat nice, change the other baby’s diaper, go pump, pack food for Bryce, get some bottles ready for Stella, and finally walk out the door without showering or having time to shave my legs.  I’m just happy we made it out the door and were only running 5 minutes late.

The actual date has also changed.  I try my best to focus on the beautiful dinner and night out with my husband, but of course I have to keep checking my watch for the time and my phone for any updates on the kids.  Dinner is starting to run later than I thought it would, now I start worrying about our friends as I don’t want to overextend the favor and it’s officially the kids’ bedtime so I just picture them both getting cranky at someone else’s house, both crying, all hell breaking loose…. and then I get a funny update sent to my phone that our friend officially changed his first diaper, and yup it was a poopy one, and everyone is doing great!  Ok, then let’s order some dessert!
