holding handsWoohoo no kids for an evening out!  My parents and in-laws gave us advice before we started having kids, “make sure you still get out just the two of you.”  Our friends are watching Bryce while we go enjoy a Friday evening together before baby #2 arrives and date nights become further apart for awhile.  We are going to an event that NO KIDS will be at and maybe go to a movie if there is time.  As the old saying goes, “you want what you can’t have,” we never noticed certain things we wouldn’t be able to do again if the kid(s) were with us – something as simple as going to the movie theater!

I tell parents-to-be to go to a fancy restaurant, the movies, and take one more road trip.  Road trips after a baby is a whole new experience, and you won’t believe how many bags you have to pack for an infant.  You think they are so small, what do they really need?  I still ask that question while I carry the diaper bags, the box of toys, the stroller, the car seat…so yes take a road trip just the two of you and enjoy the peace and quiet!  My sister-in-law had the house to herself one day while her husband and 2 kids were out, and she told me she didn’t know what to do with herself!  She wanted to take a nap, take a bath, watch movies…she ended up watching several movies in a row with no interruptions.

My in-laws are staying with us in August to help with new baby.  Of course we look forward to spending quality time with them, but the best part is they are here over our Wedding Anniversary and have agreed to watch the babies for a whole night!  We are trying to pack as much “adults only” activities into this one day/night – from a road trip, to fancy restaurant, wineries,  and going to a taping of a TV Show – maybe Jeopardy?!  What do you and your spouse like to do on date night?
