Friday, September 4, 2015 — The California Center for the Arts, Escondido is thrilled to present the live stage adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat in the Center Theater on Sunday, cat facebook2September 27, 2015. Directed and performed by Childsplay, a nationally-recognized non-profit theatre for young audiences, The Cat in the Hat is a high-energy and hilarious show recommended for grades pre-K through 4th. The show runs 45-minutes with an optional 5-10 minute post-show discussion following the performance. Interviews and hi-res photos are available upon request.

Arguably the most famous children’s book of all time, The Cat in the Hat has been beloved by readers young and old for decades. Director David Barker assures that the performance will “feel just as youthful and exhilarating as reading a Dr. Seuss book.” Childsplay is one of only a handful of theatre companies in the United States performing the adaptation, making The Cat in the Hat a must-see for San Diego families! The show will introduce children to themes of rhyme, imagination, literacy, responsibility, and creativity.

From the moment his tall, red-and-white striped hat appears at their door, Sally and her brother know that the Cat in the Hat is the most mischievous cat they will ever meet. Suddenly, a rainy afternoon is transformed by the Cat and his antics. Can the kids clean up before mom comes home? With some tricks (and a fish) and Thing Two and Thing One, the fun’s never done!

Childsplay is a non-profit theatre company of professional adult artists who perform for and teach young audiences and their families. The mission of Childsplay is “to create theatre so strikingly original in form, content or both, that it instills in young people an enduring awe, love and respect for the medium, thus preserving imagination and wonder, the hallmarks of childhood which are keys to the future.”

Don’t miss this exciting performance of The Cat in the Hat at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido!
