Let me get this straight, I’m going to be the most tired I’ve ever been in my life and can’t consume caffeine?!

I’m in my final month of pregnancy, with 2 toddlers at home, and we are moving into our new place this month… yea talk about being exhausted.  Then to top it all off, I can’t have caffeine.  That is the big question that goes back and forth with pregnant women: can I drink it, and if so how much?

I’ve been thru 3 pregnancies now and it changes each time.  Being told to avoid it all together, then hearing it’s ok to have 2 cups per day, oh wait now it’s just one cup per day…and you wonder why pregnant women get upset so easily.  We aren’t even talking about no more drinking alcohol, no more eating deli meats, no more eating sushi, the list goes on and on!  Let’s just focus on the caffeine debate here.

Remember caffeine isn’t only in coffee, but also in soda, tea, chocolate, etc.  Ah-ha maybe that’s why I’ve been craving sweets so much!  I’ve been trying to drink more water and eat more fruits and veggies, but it doesn’t compare to a big strong cup of coffee.

We go thru this for 9 months and then it’s time to nurse the baby while getting only 2 hours of sleep at a time…again with no caffeine.  Yup what you eat/drink, the baby is also consuming, so again the caffeine debate is back!  And remember this can go on for a year or more depending on how long you nurse your baby.

So next time you are with your pregnant or new mommy friend, offer to help her so she can go take a nap!
