Center Stage Children’s Theater Presents ‘Honk! Jr.’

San Diego, make some noise for “Honk! Jr.”
Center Stage Children’s Theater, “where every child shines” in this production of “Honk! Jr.” “Honk! Jr.” is the musical retelling of the Hans Christian tale of “The Ugly Duckling” and has been adapted for young performers by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. This production will be performed by a 25 student cast and 5 student crew ages 6 to 14, led by Program and Musical Theater Director Rosy Dawn Selwitz, Choreographer and Assistant Director Erin Jelacic, Crew Director Chris Elliot and Acting Instructor Nicole Cantalupo.
Our tale takes place on a farm, where a little duckling is born and given the name Ugly for his awkward and gawky looks. Ugly’s brothers and sisters, as well as, the rest of the farm animals are quick to notice that he is different and point this out in a painful way. Feeling rather foul about himself, the little duckling unknowingly becomes lost and separated from his family in the duck-yard, which sends him on an adventure of self-discovery.
Along his rollicking and harrowing journey, Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters in addition to a very hungry and sly cat. Ugly finds love, acceptance and safety through his new friendships and discovers his own true beauty as he realizes being different is not a bad thing to be.
Charming and witty, “Honk! Jr.” will treat you to equal amounts of laughter and tears; so come shake a tail and see this heart-warming story come to life by Center Stage Children’s Theater.
Performances will be Oct. 28 through 30 and Nov. 4 through 6, 2016, at the Mission Hills United Church of Christ. Evening shows available on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. and matinee shows are on Sundays at 2 p.m.
