Go wild this holiday season at the San Diego Zoo’s annual celebration, Jungle Bells! Jungle Bells guests will be treated to seasonal decorations, animal experiences, costumed characters, live entertainment and more. The Zoo will be aglow with holiday cheer and activities to keep the whole family jolly. Guests can watch as animals enjoy unique enrichment treats and guests can sample treats of their own offered at many of the Zoo’s restaurants and food stands. Don’t miss out on holiday shopping at the Zoo’s retail locations, or the holiday happy hour at Albert’s Restaurant—Happy Holidays Happens—with discounted drinks and appetizers available from 3 to 5 p.m. each day of Jungle Bells.
After the sun goes down in December, the San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas is transformed into a dazzling winter wonderland – Southern California Style! More than 125,000 sparkling lights illuminate the flora of this fantastic 37-acre urban oasis each evening for a magical holiday experience. Bring the family and enjoy the Garden at night as the lights illuminate several spectacular Garden areas, including the iconic Lawn Garden, Tropical Rainforest, Waterfall Deck, Undersea Succulent Garden, Eucalyptus Grove, Seeds of Wonder (children’s area) and Bamboo Garden, containing the nation’s largest collection of bamboo. Garden of Lights has events and activities that everyone in your family will enjoy. Nightly entertainment, including local blues and jazz bands, as well as delicious food from Red Oven Artisanal Pizza and Pasta, and hot coffee and treats from the Feel Good Coffee Cart, will be available. Numerous family-friendly activities are also part of the festivities including: Horse-drawn wagon rides and snow for sledding (on selected evenings), holiday crafts, spin art, Nutcracker display, carolers and more! There will also be visits with Santa from Dec. 2-23. NOTE: There is no Garden of Lights on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Additional fees apply for some of the activities.

The San Diego Museum of Art is encouraging kids to open their minds and get hands-on with “Frida and Me,” an educational exhibition for kids that explores the inventiveness and power of Frida Kahlo’s work. On view for the first time in the U.S., this interactive exhibition is comprised of multiple modules based on Kahlo’s life and the famed Casa Azul, her residence in Mexico City. Each section features interactive elements and workshops that engage young visitors creatively and help them tap into the artist within. Visitors will also have the opportunity to see the Museum’s “Modern Masters from Latin America.” This exhibition features more than 100 works by some of the greatest modern masters, including Kahlo and her husband Diego Rivera.
