“You get what you get and you don’t throw a fit” is something I should have said a lot more of when the kids were younger. Had I said that more, perhaps the little things in life wouldn’t be such a huge pain-in-the-neck for me now.  For example, preparing lunches for my 4 children.  Rather than allowing my kids to dictate how they wanted/expected their food to be prepared, I should have just said “You get what you get and you don’t throw a fit.”  I didn’t.  Now the simple, mindless task of making a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich x 4 is no longer simple… or mindless.

This is what I have to remember anytime I make the kids a PB&J:

  • 1 Peanut butter and jelly, extremly light on the peanut butter, normal amount of jelly with top crust removed
  • 1 Peanut butter and jelly, normal amount of peanut butter, extra jelly
  • 1 Peanut butter and jelly, more peanut butter, less jelly
  • 1 Peanut butter and jelly, no preference regarding peanut butter or jelly but absolutely NO CRUST

What’s on the menu for lunch tomorrow?  Whatever is on the school menu…  Mama is taking a day off from sandwich making.
