Shannon Haines had big plans. She was going to medical school to become a doctor.
But when she got pregnant at 16, she thought that those plans would have to be put on hold permanently.
It turns out that May 5 will be a big day. It’s the day Haines will graduate from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Shannon never gave up her dream. When her daughter Kaylee was only one year old, Haines graduated from Futures High School in Kirkland, Washington. She attended Craven Community College, majoring in liberal arts, then got a biotechnology degree from University of Nebraska Omaha in 2013.
While Haines did marry the father of her child, they divorced when she was 22.
It’s only the beginning for Shannon Haines. On July 1, she’ll begin her residency through UNMC Pediatrics Residency Program.
Congratulations, Shannon, for not losing sight of your dream!
