February is Museum Month in San Diego and more than 70 museums, historic sites, gardens, aquariums and more are celebrating with 50% admission! All you have to do is pick up a printed museum pass at any of 80+ San Diego City or County public libraries, five libraries in Imperial County, or at select educational libraries. You can also get a digital pass here.
Pro Tip: Get the printed pass as many museums only accept those passes.
This is a great time to check out museums that you may have never been to or maybe didn’t even know existed. Here are some of our favorites that we love:
Comic-Con Museum
Every summer thousands descend upon the Gaslamp for the biggest comic convention in the world. You can experience a little of that all year round at the Comic-Con museum. Plus, right now they have an awesome Doctor Who exhibit. Note: Comic-Con Museum offers half-off admission on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays. Discount is limited to 2 adults & 2 children (17 & under) tickets.
San Diego Model Railroad Museum
My kid LOVES this space! There is so much to see and the staff of volunteers that put the incredible displays together clearly have so much love and care for what they do. The recreations of famous California railroads must be seen.
Navy SEAL Museum San Diego
This is a newer museum in San Diego, officially opening to the public in October of last year. You and your family can learn the history of these brave seamen and interactive displays including a VR experience that takes you on a first-person journey into a high-stakes hostage rescue mission.
USS Midway
Look, we know everyone talks about the Midway, but there is a reason why. Getting to walk and tour this ship is an incredible experience and you learn so much. If you love an audio tour, you’ll love the Midway!
Deer Park Winery & Auto Museum
Yes, there is a winery and auto museum in North County. I don’t think we really need to say anymore. This museum consists of three buildings holding over 100 cars. And there is wine… So… Yeah…
Gaslamp Museum at the Davis-Horton House
Everyone talks about how haunted the Whaley House is, but did you know that there is a home in the middle of the Gaslamp that is ever MORE haunted?!? The Davis-Horton house was built in 1850 and is the oldest building in downtown San Diego. It served many different residents and was even a hospital at one point, hence why all the paranormal activity.
Living Coast Discovery Center
Located in Chula Vista, this nonprofit zoo and aquarium on the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge showcases native Southern California coastal wildlife and habitats. It offers interactive exhibits, educational programs, and up-close encounters with animals like sea turtles, sharks, rays, birds of prey and more, all aimed at inspiring visitors to connect with and protect the coastal environment.
