Spring Break is approaching fast for many kids in San Diego and, for the first time in two years, things look like they could be a little normal. But now with crazy gas prices, you might want to be staying close to home this year. Here are some fun things you can do with the family right here in San Diego.

Check Out the Flowers
With spring starting this weekend, that means it’s time to check out the beautiful flowers that grow all over San Diego. Your first stop, of course, has to be the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch. The 50 acres blooming here will make for a fun day and PLENTY of Instagram worthy photos. Carlsbad does tend to get a little crowded, so if that isn’t right for your family you can also check out Anza-Borrego Desert State Park for a wildflower bloom or the San Diego Botanical Garden.

Amusement Parks and Zoos
Yes, checking out our local amusement parks and zoos is a pretty standard spring break activity, but there are a LOT of new things to check out this year. First off, SeaWorld has a new roller coaster, Emperor, that will knock your socks off and has the best view of San Diego. Plus, the Seven Seas Food Festival is happening right now through May 1st. The San Diego Zoo recently opened Wildlife Explorers Basecamp, a 3.2 acre exploration zone with over 100 of different species and a ton of interactive exhibits.

Finally, you can forget Sesame Place opening March 26th in Chula Vista! There are so many things to love about this new attraction to San Diego, but what I love most is they are a Certified Autism Center. That means their staff has special training and the needs for kids with Autism were included when planning the park.

Go to the Beach
This one is a no-brainer. We live in the greatest city in the world, why not take advantage of the amazing beaches during Spring Break? Yes, it might be a little cooler but that just means less tourists which is always a win. Tide Pool season is just about ending so it’s the perfect time to check them out. Check out the list below for the best ones in town:

Visit a Museum
When was the last time you took your family to a museum? Balboa Park is a great place to spend a day taking in the scenery and visiting one of our fabulous museums. With so many to choose from, there will be something for everyone. If you’re going to go, checking out the Explorer Pass is a great idea. If you want to visit for your entire Spring Break, passes are $67 for adults and $43 for kids and last seven consecutive days. If you want to explore Balboa Park all year, the Annual Pass is a great deal. For $229 you get unlimited access to most of Balboa Park for two adults and up to 4 kids! It really is a great deal.

If you’re trying to save money, Tuesdays are free for San Diego residents at select museums. Check the link below for the full schedule:
