This week is National Volunteer Week to celebrate all the contributions volunteers make around the world. If you’ve never done a volunteer project with your kids, this is a great time to consider starting. It is a great bonding experience as well as a wonderful way to teach them selflessness. Here are some great ways you can volunteer with the family in San Diego:
San Diego Food Bank
During the pandemic, the San Diego Food Bank helped keep many local families fed. They need volunteers to help sort food on a daily basis. This a great thing you can do with your kids 11 and up.
Surfrider Foundation
We are so lucky to have so many beautiful beaches in San Diego and the Surfrider is one of many local organizations working to keep them that way. Not only can you help keep our beaches clean, you get to spend a day at the beach while doing it!

I Love a Clean San Diego
Our San Diego beaches aren’t the only things that need help staying clean. I Love a Clean San Diego not only helps keep our beaches clean, but also local canyons and other spots that need it.
Father Joe’s Village
If you’ve been in San Diego long enough, you know what an impact Father Joe’s Village has made on the local homeless communities. There are a variety of different ways you and your family, aged 10 and up, can help this amazing organization.
Doing Good Together
If you are looking for even more ways your family can help the local community, Doing Good Together has a listing of some great events in San Diego that need your help. This month they have events to clean up a river, work with a senior citizen walking group and help fill a community fridge.
