“The Art of Music” is an exhibit that presents a multifaceted and culturally diverse exploration of the intersection between music and art.
This exhibition celebrates Balboa Park’s centennial of Balboa Park and pays tribute to the daily musical performances held in the park during the yearlong 1915 Panama–California Exposition.
Altogether, the exhibition includes over 200 works of art – a combination of works from the museum’s permanent collection and loans from other museums and private collections. It includes paintings, sculptures, textiles, and examples of contemporary video, installation, and sound art, and musical instruments.
The Art of Music is focused around three central themes: symbolism, the social function of music and lastly, the representations of the sounds, emotions and sights of music.
The exhibit runs from Sept. 26 to Feb. 7, 2016. For additional details call the San Diego Museum of Art at(619) 232-7931.
