I was very crabby the other day for no reason, until I got outside and realized how free I felt since my 2 bedroom apartment is now closing in on itself with baby gates.  My feng shui is totally off!  How do you make your place baby proof and follow feng shui?  I’m kidding a little as I never followed feng shui, I’m too lazy for that; but  I do feel better after I pick up Bryce’s toys at night and actually see the carpet for a little bit before bedtime.

The baby gates are the only thing we have done so far in baby proofing our place.  I don’t want to feel like a prisoner in my own home with locks on everything including the toilet – how much is too much when it comes to baby proofing?  I want Bryce to adventure and learn what is good and what is bad, while of course keeping him safe.  This point in our life brings me back to when we were registering for our baby shower and I was getting overwhelmed by the aisles and aisles of baby items I had never seen before and my husband saying, “Just because they make it, doesn’t mean we need it.”  I think that is the same sentence I need to remember when I see clamps and locks for every little inch of the house you can think of.

I love watching Bryce figure something out for the first time too.  As you can see in the picture, he figured out how to open our cabinets with games in it.  Not only did he open the door, he opened the deck of cards and had such a big smile on his face.  So we just backed him away from the cabinet and put something in front of it for awhile and he moved on to another toy.  Today, he hasn’t gone back to the cabinet, so maybe I don’t need to baby proof as much as I thought, woohoo!

What are some of the baby proofing items you found really worked and you recommend?  Share by clicking on “leave a comment” above.
