photo (19)I remember the years growing up when we would be celebrating my mom’s birthday or Mother’s Day and I would tell her the day was ALL about her; she would politely smile and say “yea right” under her breath.  Now I know what she meant!

My husband and I have birthdays in the same week and realized this year our birthday celebrations will never be the same now that we are parents of toddlers.  The kids open OUR presents, blow out OUR birthday candles, and really control OUR party.

For my husband’s birthday, he went to a movie theater with a couple friends.  Before we had kids, that would sound like a lame thing to do for a birthday.  Now, after kids, it was a blast!  He hadn’t been to the movie theater in so long and loved it.

For my birthday, I invited a group of friends to a restaurant with a game room thinking it would be a fun place for both adults and kids to run around and play games.  I never got to play a single game!  Instead it became a workout for 3 hours while balancing kids running around, trying to actually have a single conversation with our guests, running after one kid while the other was off playing games with a friend, then rotating who was taking care of which kids, and where is my drink?!  It was fun to see how many kids and babies were there at the party though and realizing this is the stage of my life right now,  enjoy it.

PS I love how excited my son gets when he blows out the birthday candles.  The pure glee over something that simple was one of those moments I want to remember forever.
