We just had a great vacation visiting all our family back in Wisconsin! Of course the only stressful part of the trip was the actual traveling. This was Bryce’s 2nd time flying already in his 8 months, and as he gets older, the harder traveling is. When he was 6 months old, he just slept; but now he was awake for all 7 hours of the flight.
Carrying luggage, diaper bag, breast pump, purse, and baby – whew, I was ready for a sandwich and beer at one of the overpriced airport restaurants. After the food and beer got to our table, Bryce flung his arm toward the table and I watched my $7 beer go right onto my $13 sandwich and all over the table. BUT I will take that happening over having a crying baby on the flight and thank goodness we had no issues there!
Here is what I do while flying with Bryce to keep him from crying:
1. I give him a bottle at take off and during the descent to make sure his ears don’t hurt.
2. Bring several small toys, but just give him one at a time.
3. Bring several items that are not considered “toys” but may keep his attention. Out of all the teethers, toys, and books Bryce has to play with, he usually goes for the one item that was not meant to be a toy. As you can see in the picture, my nail polish made it somewhere near the table in his play area and of course that is what he played with longer than any of his toys. On the flight, it was my granola bar wrapper that kept him happy for over an hour!
