Yes you read it right. Students have to pay a monetary fee for every late infraction they have. If that was the case when I went to school, my parents would have been flat broke.

At Stansbury High School in Stansbury Park Utah, students receive a warning for their first tardy. After that there are no more warning. Each tardy is a $3 fee and the cost is going up. Soon the students will have to pay $5 a tardy. If the students cannot pay the infraction fees, they have the option of lunch detention or they can choose to show perfect attendance for a specific amount of time. The school says that the fees are not meant to make life harder for the kids or their parents, but are meant to force kids to be responsible. The Assistant Principal of Stansbury High says, “What we’re really trying to target is those periods between classes where really it’s a choice. “It’s a personal decision of whether you’re going to walk from class A to class B and be on time.”

School parent Brett Dennison told Fox 13 news, “I think the school board implemented this as part of a way to generate income, make a money grab out of the thing.” The school of course disputes this statement saying they wish they’d get no money at all. They just want kids in class.
